Eligibility & Benefits Verification Services
A lot of denials start long before a claim is built. The policy had lapsed, the plan type was wrong, or the benefit didn't cover the service, and nobody found out until the remittance came back. Our eligibility and benefits verification team checks coverage before the visit, so your front desk and your billing team are working from facts instead of assumptions.
We work inside your EHR or practice management system and hand back clear, documented results for every patient. Our eligibility and authorization work runs at a 99.9% accuracy rate.
What we handle
Eligibility verification is more than confirming that a policy is "active." For each patient and planned service, our team confirms:
- Active coverage on the actual date of service, including policy effective and termination dates
- Correct payer, plan type and member ID
- Deductible, copay, coinsurance and benefit limits, as far as the payer returns them
- Visit or unit caps, referral requirements and plan exclusions that affect the service
- In-network or out-of-network status for the rendering provider and location
- Whether the planned service needs prior authorization, and a clean handoff when it does
- Primary, secondary and tertiary coverage, including coordination of benefits
- Repeat checks for recurring care such as therapy, infusion, home health and DME resupply
We support multi-specialty practices, laboratories, behavioral health, home health, infusion centers, sleep labs and DME suppliers, among the 15+ specialties we serve. See how this fits into your specialty on our multi-specialty billing services page.
How our verification process works
- Intake from your system. We pick up new and scheduled patients from your EHR or practice management software, so there is no second list to maintain.
- Verify at scheduling. We confirm coverage and benefits through payer portals, clearinghouse checks or direct payer contact, depending on what each payer supports.
- Document the benefits. Results are recorded in your system for the specific service, in plain language your front desk can use at check-in.
- Re-check before the visit. Plans change mid-month and patients don't always mention it. We verify again shortly before the date of service, while there is still time to fix a problem.
- Flag and hand off. Inactive coverage, benefit limits and authorization requirements are flagged right away. Anything that needs approval moves to prior authorization, and recurring eligibility misses are fed back so the same gap doesn't repeat.
Why practices choose Salyx
We treat verification as a cash-flow control, not a data-entry task. Here is what that looks like in practice:
- Accurate. A 99.9% accuracy rate in eligibility and authorizations, backed by documented, repeatable processes under our ISO 9001 certification.
- Fast and paperless. 100% paperless processing and 65% faster processing, so results reach your team in time to use them.
- Secure. HIPAA-compliant by design, with ISO 27001-certified information security and security practices that include MFA/VPN access, encryption and locked devices.
- Consistent. Support that gets to know your payers, your specialties and your workflow.
- Connected. Verification feeds directly into claim submission, so the data on the claim matches the coverage on file.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between eligibility verification and benefits verification?
Eligibility verification confirms that a patient has active coverage on the date of service. Benefits verification goes a step further and confirms what that plan pays for: deductibles, copays, coinsurance, limits and any authorization or referral requirements. We do both together.
When should eligibility be verified?
At scheduling, and again shortly before the visit. The first check catches obvious problems early. The second catches plan changes and leaves time to fix them. Checking only on the day of service leaves little room to act.
Do you check secondary and tertiary insurance?
Yes. We confirm every coverage on file and flag coordination-of-benefits issues, so the claim goes to the right payer in the right order.
Can you work inside our EHR or practice management system?
Yes. We work with a wide range of EHR, EMR and practice management systems and follow your existing workflow, so your team isn't managing a parallel process.
What happens when a patient's coverage is inactive or doesn't cover the service?
We flag it immediately and share what we found, so your team can contact the patient, update the insurance on file or reschedule before care is delivered, instead of finding out after a denial.
Do you need patient information to get started?
Not to talk with us. Please don't send patient details through our website forms. If protected health information needs to be shared later, we'll give you an approved, secure way to exchange it.
